The Run Game is Key if the Giants Want to Win
Review of Tom Coughlin’s Daughter. The Giants can usually move the ball against most teams. But, because the weather is not going to be great, the passing game is going to struggle, which puts the onus on the running game to have a big day. Jacobs and Bradshaw will need to be huge. The Giants can try to work the short passing game, and hope the ball isn’t too slippery. Honestly, it all comes down to the running game. We know Eli isn’t good in inclement weather. It doesn’t make sense to try and force the ball downfield. Short passes to Steve Smith will work just fine–as long as the run game gets going. The run game is key if the Giants want to win.
Good news for the Giants: Jeremy Maclin and Brian Westbrook are out. Of course, Westbrook was out last game, and we all know how that worked. But, it’s still an advantage. Couple that with the weather, and the Iggles offense could struggle. That might be the biggest advantage of all. I’m not worried about the run defense. Putting Chris Canty in the starting lineup was one of the best moves Bill Sheridan has made all year. I am, even with the weather and Maclin out, worried about the pass defense. The Giants just can’t cover anyone. If Ross starts at safety, that should help. But, we’re seeing corners getting flat out beat. I’d recommend playing some bump and run, get really physical at the line of scrimmage. They can’t just give receivers a cushion. Also, Coach Sheridan, if someone is getting beat, GIVE HIM HELP! I don’t want to see Bruce Johnson getting beat one on one like he did against the Cowboys. Have to make adjustments. And, as always, a strong pass rush will help the corners. It seems that Osi coming off the bench as a strictly as pass rusher has helped.
